I am pleased to extend my best wishes to the organisers and attendees of the 28th MEFF Multicultural Eid Festival and Fair on 2 September at Fairfield Showground in my electorate.
Eid is a festive occasion for Muslims in Australia and around the world, as it celebrates the completion of the holy month of Ramadan.
Following a month of fasting and reflection, Eid is a time for people of Muslim faith to pray, spend time with family and friends, and reach out to those less fortunate.
Muslim Australians have made a valuable contribution to our country in areas ranging from business to culture since the 1800s.
Australia’s Muslim communities comprise a large number of diverse ethnicities and cultural backgrounds, originating from more than 100 countries, including Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
This event will bring Muslim Australians together to reflect on and celebrate their faith.
On behalf of the Australian Government, I wish everyone involved with the Multicultural Eid Festival and Fair 2012 all the best for a joyful and successful occasion.
I wish all Muslim Australians a happy Eid. Eid Mubarak.
