Message from Kate Lundy, Minister for Multicultural Affairs Minister Assisting for Innovation and Industry

It is with great pleasure that I send my warmest greetings to the Muslim community

as they celebrate the Eid Festival.

Ramadan has been a time of fasting and prayer. Ramadan has also been a time

to serve the less fortunate, a reminder of the obligations that people have to each

other.

I would like to acknowledge the efforts and recognise the achievements of the

Multicultural Eid Festival & Fair Management Committee, which has administered

this important event since 1985.

This year, 30 000 people from different backgrounds, from different races and from

different religions are expected to come together harmoniously to celebrate the Eid

Festival.

Events such as this demonstrate the vibrancy of our multicultural society. They

enrich our national life, strengthen our commitment to democratic values and

enhance respect and support for cultural, religious and linguistic diversity.

That is why those who call Australia home have the right to practise and share in

their cultural tradition and languages within the law and free from discrimination.

I send my best wishes to all attending this Festival.
