Message from The Honourable Kevin Rudd
Prime Minister of Australia
Congratulations on celebrating the 29th year of the Multicultural Eid Festival and Fair and congratulations on another successful year of contribution and work for Islamic communities in Australia.
The success of Australia’s multiculturalism is built on the commitment of all Australians to a nation united by tolerance, mutual respect and care for others, and enriched by our linguistic and cultural differences. Events such as the 29th Eid Multicultural Festival and Fair are essential for realising a culturally diverse, socially cohesive and harmonious nation.
Today’s event has been organised in the spirit of sharing common values that unite Australians from all cultural and faith backgrounds. The month of Ramadan offers an opportunity to develop community relationships. Fasting, charity, and self-reflection are of significant importance at this holy time. The tradition of breaking the fast with neighbours and friends allows the sharing of interfaith dialogue and establishing links across different cultural communities.
I congratulate the organisers of this important and successful annual event that has also become one of Sydney’s biggest cultural celebrations.
